Towns Fund West Bromwich Connected Hill Top/Bagnall Street
Overview
Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is excited to share with you proposals to construct a cycle track on Bagnall Street, West Bromwich. This follows the receipt of funding from the Department for Transport, called the Active Travel Fund, as part of the Government’s announcement in November 2020 to invest in high-quality cycling and walking infrastructure across England to make local cycling and walking journeys safer for all.
It is hoped that the fully segregated cycle route and improved footways and crossings will give residents the confidence to embed cycling and walking into their travel arrangements, which will in turn have positive impacts on air quality and the environment, as well as the health and wellbeing of residents who choose to walk and cycle. The route improvements consist of:
- 0.3km of two-way segregated cycle tracks, ensuring cyclists are separated from both pedestrians and traffic
- New crossing facility
This new cycleway is the first phase of works on a cycle route from Hill Top to Walsall Canal/Eagle Lane. The works proposed in this phase will form an essential link that bypasses a traffic roundabout with a high number of Heavy Goods Vehicles and provides a safe pedestrian and cycle crossing that leads to a new crossing over the Wednesbury Brierley Hill Metro track under the A41Black Country New Road flyover.
