Sandwell Local Plan 2: Scoping Consultation

Overview

This is the first stage of consultation in the preparation of the new Sandwell Local Plan.  

A local plan sets out how much development is required and where it should go. We need to ensure that the right amount and type of development is directed to the right places.  

What is this consultation about?

The purpose of the Scoping Consultation is to provide meaningful early engagement in the plan-making process by seeking views from residents and stakeholders on what the plan should contain and how future engagement should be carried out.

We want your views on the key issues that will shape our borough.  We’re asking for your thoughts on

• the challenges of planning for more homes,
• the infrastructure needed to support growth,
• how we can protect and enhance our built and natural environments,
• supporting jobs and the economy,
• tackling climate change, and
• creating well-designed, healthy communities.

This will help us decide the content of the new local plan.

This consultation sets out matters that the Council considers are relevant to the preparation of the local plan, in accordance with Regulation 20 of the Town and Country Planning (Local Planning) (England) Regulations 2026.

The consultation period will run from 27^th July until 11^th September 2026. Read the text and answer the questions in this survey to respond to the consultation. The only questions that are mandatory to answer are those on the next page, “About You”.

Set out below are the main areas of consideration we need to address in the new local plan. These are similar to the contents and scope of the current local plan in some cases; this is an opportunity to make your views known on whether anything needs to be revised and what else should be included or addressed as part of the new plan.
