Garage Lettings Policy
Overview
Garage Lettings Policy – Have Your Say
Parking can be a real challenge on some housing estates, and many residents value having access to a secure garage. Council‑owned garages can help reduce congestion on roads, improve access on estates, and provide useful storage space for households.
Sandwell Council owns and manages garages across the borough. There are rules about:
- Who can apply to rent a garage
- How garages are allocated
- What garages can be used for
- How much rent is charged
- What happens if a garage agreement ends
These rules are not always well understood.
We have written a draft Garage Lettings Policy to clearly explain:
- Who can apply to rent a Council garage
- How garages are advertised and allocated
- What garages can and cannot be used for
- How garage rent is charged and reviewed
- How garage agreements can be ended
- How fairness, equality and reasonable adjustments are considered
Before this policy is finalised, we want to hear from tenants, residents, leaseholders and others who may be affected. Your feedback will help us make sure the policy is clear, fair, and practical, and reflects real experiences.
This survey should take around 5–10 minutes to complete. Your responses are confidential. There are no right or wrong answers – we value your views.
